It was a fun-filled evening that celebrated the various student organizations that had participated in the event and the fact that those organizations worked together to bring a fun day to campus. This year, the Student Volunteer Recognition Event was held on one of the biggest days of the year for campus, Black Friday, which meant that it was a festive, rather than quiet day. After a delicious dinner, the awards ceremony was held. The evening started with a brief introduction to the event by the administration. The Student Volunteer Recognition Event, hosted by the Mentor Network, was organized by a group of students who were concerned that not enough students were aware of and appreciated what student volunteers do for their organizations and for the student body. The idea of the event is to promote student volunteerism. A number of student organizations were also present at the event to share information about their volunteer program. Afterwards, Dean of Student Affairs, Tom Russo, introduced the event and then introduced the different student organizations who participated in the event. He then gave a brief history of the Mentor Network, a bi-weekly meeting where volunteers can meet, talk about their volunteerism, and share what they are doing in the community. The main speaker was Bryan Rose, Chairperson of the Student Activities Board (S.A.B.). He spoke briefly about the S.A.B. and its history and how it came to be. The S.A.B. is one of the oldest organizations on campus. It was founded back in 1918. The founder, Mr. Francis, was a professor at the time. There are quite a few important people who have been members of the S.A.B. including one of the most famous people to come out of the university,
